The holiday weekends are the
worse for us full time travelers since the RV Parks usually are full and/or
have increased the rates and made it mandatory to stay 3 nights. It is usually not as bad here on the west
coast but it still has its disadvantages when searching for a decent place to
stay. We got lucky again and found a gem
in the rough.
We found a nice place to hang
out for the weekend that was not full of weekenders and was reasonably
priced. Check out our separate review on
our stay at Shoreline RV Park for all the information.
While at the park we took a
ride on our bikes to Old Town Eureka and had a fun time even though it was a
drizzly day. The surrounding area is a
bit sketchy with several of the streets run down and many homeless people
camped out everywhere. The town itself had
a small town feeling with loads of crafty, artsy buildings and stores.
We could not resist a taste
of Marlene’s Peanut Butter & Chocolate Chip Cookie that was loaded with
chocolate chips and just the perfect amount of peanut butter to make this cookie
soft and gooey.
We tasted our first Berry
Scone and it was delicious. Scones use a
heavier dough that they loaded with berries and a sweetness that was perfectly
baked.
Then we saw a Rugulah,
neither of us had ever heard of one but it looked delicious in the display case
so we shared one of these pastries that are made with cream cheese dough. This one was filled with chocolate chips,
walnuts, cinnamon and a few other items that made this the best tasting pastry
we have tasted. The sweetness
complimented the pastry without overwhelming it.
Of course when we looked at
our first Slug, we knew had to taste one.
It is a much firmer dough then a bagel and very soft inside. These were loaded with garlic, sesame seeds
and many other seasonings that made the flavors just awaken our taste buds.
We then took a ride along the
Boardwalk and just enjoyed the area taking photos of all the Victorian homes
and really nice views.

Glad to see you've "slowed down" and are taking a vacation! Have a ball! :c)
