Now What?

We are having an exceptionally hard time this year, we have NOT been able to find other steady work and Lt Blender with its new pay scale has fizzled badly. We are making half of what we were making the past few years and those years were lean enough. We have sent out hundreds of resumes since November and nothing. All of our original plans took nose dives so hard that there was no recovering and we ended up having to work a few events for Lt Blender just to keep us from totally losing it all. We continued to hold on to our faith that it will work out, but we’re getting weak.

We finally got a call mid February from a nearby resort that needed help in the kitchen and bartending. It was perfect timing for us so we thought it was a sign for better things ahead. Our event was just ending and we could immediately head there which was great for them because their help just walked off the job with no notice at all. That is never a good sign and there was an extremely negative review online that was not from them that just walked off but from another disgruntled employee. We will make our own judgment since we needed a steady income and nothing else was happening.

The work and the owners are good but Jerry only getting about 20 hours and me strictly on commission at the pool bar was not cutting it. Tips were not great because when I charged their tabs, it automatically added a 15% gratuity on it, BUT I did not receive it in its entirety since I received a third of total intake which they included the 15% in the grand total. It was strange and I didn’t think it was even legal but when questioned they said it was the way it was done, so we had to live with it until we found something else.

We’re barely holding on and we know the universe is trying to teach us a lesson but we are so done and just want to live our lives without all these roadblocks. And, yes we are grateful for all we have, but is it that wrong to want more?

In a moment things can change and we think they have, but at the same time we are afraid of believing in it just yet…

There was no drama when we told them that financially it would not work for us and we left. We headed for Casa Grande with hopes that this just might be the one that we can enjoy the work AND make some good money too, only time will tell.

We were in a back-in RV site with water, 30/50 amp electric and sewer, they also offer free WiFi and cable TV channels. Charges vary depending on location and type of site, they also have cabins.

There are several pools, saunas and mineral soaks that are totally inviting.

Restrooms and laundry are a bit dated but are clean.

Sassy’s Outback Café, located right on the premises has a wide variety for breakfast and lunch that is delicious and reasonably priced. The store has a bit more than most, catering to beers for all tastes, RV supplies and some pretty cool apparel.

They predominately cater to “Weekend Warriors” off road people since there are so many trails around this area. If you don’t want all the noise and craziness, then we suggest coming during the week, you will almost have the place to yourself.

Our Work Experience…

Jerry cooked at the restaurant and he enjoyed not only the work but the other workers. There were two others on the line and a dishwasher. They all had their jobs but assisted one another wherever it was needed.

I put in a few hours at the store/office and found things to be easy to learn, they used the Sunrise Panaroma, but my main job was working the portable bar at the pools. It was a fun job that I really enjoyed.

Both the owners were courteous and fair towards us and others at all times. There was no conflicts and we would have loved to stay longer but we need a lot more hours then they were able to give to us. They were disappointed but were professional about us leaving without any drama at all.
