Caring What Others Think

This has always been one of our Achilles’ heels and even though we have been working hard at it, it seems to be taking a toll on us these last few days. It doesn’t help that the lot has been so slow and we are just sitting around…not what we expected from this location but the weekends are really busy so we should be good now.

We have always had a great disposition when it comes to people but we are not perfect and we have had a few not so pleasant times with customer service. The complainers always complain the loudest but the good ones hardly ever say anything… Why is that? Anyway, I was bored so I went online with my new IPhone and searched reviews about this business and found some comments about my attitude with some of the pumpkin people…well needless to say it did not sit well with me. Then, our boss was in a mood and said a few things that really got under our skin.

So, for the past few days we have been down on ourselves, then we had an epiphany…we will NEVER be able to please everyone and until you have walked a mile in my shoes, do not have the audacity to complain about my customer service when in all honesty it was you that was being unreasonable.

We always go above our call of duty, because that is how we were raised and it feels right to us. But, there are times when people expect so much and are not willing to give back nothing. That is exactly what these few circumstances were all about.
We still do not have the proper electricity we need to run our motorhome and it is now worse since we have a gauge which is telling us that not only do we not have enough power, we also do not have a dedicated line for us only. The other day I came in to vacuum and looked at the meter and we were peaked…we had nothing running to warrant that sort of usage. When the museum shut down at 4pm we looked at the gauge, it was back to what we have been living with for the past few weeks.

Bad enough for our rig not having the power we need, then our setup in the lot is bad as well. I usually use a space heater in my booth to keep me warm and whenever I turn it on, my lights go out and there are other little nuances about electrical stuff throughout the lot that when we expressed our concern, we were brushed off.

The good news is…we have only 22 more days…then we are off to the desert to dry up. We are looking into other types of work for next year, we do not want to do another pumpkin or Christmas lot ever again! We want to have fun while we work...enough of this already!

Have you tried the National Parks, I think they pay pretty good and they usually offer some type of discount for dining in their cafes.

We are looking into Hickory Farms...good money...good venues. We almost worked for them a few years ago but we had mechanical issues and had to back out and then we found the Christmas lot. Really in need of a change...next year FOR SURE!

After working in customer service for the IRS for most of my career, I can definitely relate to rude people. And you do need to gain a thick skin if you want to survive. But only 22 days - you can make it. We're all pulling for you. And that desert will be there waiting for you.

You are right in that more people complain about bad service than compliment about good service. It's just the way it is. Your days in that place are numbered and it'll soon be behind you. Put a smile on your face and at least you'll know the truth. Dealing with people can be very difficult.

Good luck and hopefully we'll see you on the road.

It does not sound like fun working conditions. Hang in there for those last 22 days:)

So sorry for the complaints. We had one filed against us in the last week which was very frustrating because Ron did the best he could in that situation...so frustrating. But the countdown is on...hang in there!!! And remember the good times.

Hang in there, you're strong, mark the 22 days and soon you'll be on the road again.

I have to admire you both. Despite all the issues, you are sticking it out and making the best lemonade out of the lemons you've been dealt.

So sorry you are trapped in a miserable situation. We sold Christmas trees last year in San Antonio. It was very professionally run and we had all utilities... but it was ALOT of work. We wanted to leave a few days into it! Hang in there... I hope you make enough to make it worth it. Is this in Sacramento? We were offered a job selling trees in Sacramento. Obviously, we turned it down.

Thanks for letting us know about the trees and pumpkins. I don't need to hear something is great when it isn't...and then get stuck myself. We're going to try a National Park next. Good luck to us all! camphost.blogspot.com
