On our days off we began our vacation by doing our laundry in town…it was the most costliest laundry day we ever had…apparently in South Dakota they have casinos everywhere, even attached to the laundromat, so of course while the dryers were going we slipped into the casino and lost a few dollars.
We then took the long way to Keystone, driving the Needles Highway. What a FANTABULOUS drive…definitely not for the faint of heart since there are many areas that two cars can’t pass one another, the tunnels are exhilarating...you have to stay very alert or you could go over a very steep area. Here are just a few of the hundreds of photos we took…
We stayed at Roosevelt Inn in Keystone…it was a great stay. The building was strange because it is built on a hill…the 3rd floor was reachable by the back uphill parking, but our patio was up 3 floors from the ground…strange but pretty cool. Our room was clean and roomy but the bathroom was so small.
We ordered delivery from Boss’ Pizza & Chicken and it was delicious…we had the Chicken Cordon Bleu which had blue cheese, bacon, Canadian bacon, chicken, & mozzarella cheese.
They have so many other great pizza choices…
We also had our first taste of Chislic, a South Dakota recipe for cubes meat and it was delicious…
We also walked and shopped the area and picked up a few items, including new masks…we figured since we have to wear them, we might as well be stylish...
Then we went to The National Presidential Wax Museum, so amazing how lifelike they look…
THIS ONE IS TRULY REALISTIC...
Then we had a glass of wine at Grapes & Grinds right across the street from our hotel...
They carried wines from Hill City, so we tried the ones from the winery down the street from Prairie Berry, the Firehouse Winery. The Riesling was dryer than we liked, but the Mythical Beast was a perfect blend…
We then just hung out in our room for the rest of the night, enjoying our patio and our view...LIFE IS GRAND!
