Our Beginning at Lake George Escape

Wet, muddy, rain, rain, and more rain. We are told it is the wettest Spring but they are sure it will soon end and we are hopeful they are right.

We worked our 1st few days doing our paperwork and testing, we were ahead of schedule so we ended up taking the rest of the week off to get our personal stuff done. We found our perfect site and moved over there, we did laundry in town since the one at the campground was not open yet, we cleaned and totally unpacked. We checked out Ollie’s, the deeply discounted store in the area. AND, we began having days with blue skies and only a touch of fog in the morning, something we hadn’t seen at all before now.

Through opening day many sites of the 574 sites were unusable due to being under water but the flood waters receded inches per day, and they are all open for Memorial Day weekend.

Until opening, we were on 8am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday and once opening we have requested any two days off but the weekends which they were happy to oblige.

We have Tuesday and Wednesday’s off and have plans to get away every weekend. Jerry is working Golf Carts and in the store and I am at the front desk. It’s been slow and boring for me, I am more used to much busier times, so I am really looking forward to this holiday weekend where we are just about sold out. We have probably half seasonals that are already checked in but this weekend we have the other half of weekend checkins. I can see the store being busy, not so much the front desk, at least my idea of busy.

We drove up a few hours to take care of a few items on our list and we took many roads less traveled…

We spent the night in Vermont so we may put it on our map. Even though we had passed into Vermont before, our criteria is to spend the night in the state before we add it to our map and we did just that, we stayed at Best Western Plus in Waterbury – Stowe, see our separate review for the hotel information.

The other item on our Life List was to visit Ben & Jerry’s in Stowe, Vermont. We chose not to do the guided tour, instead we did our own tour, bought our souvenirs, and had an ice cream before checking into our hotel for an afternoon soak in the hot tub and pool…just what the doctor ordered.

We made an unexpected stop at Crown Point Historical Site where we took photos of the bridge we went across.

On our return trip we crossed over Lake Champlain on the ferry back into New York for a different view.

Our First Journey in the Cougar

Just can’t seem to get away from the wind…right after our arrival in Tucson for a few weeks at Voyager RV Resort we were under a wind advisory and were doing some major rocking and rolling that happened several times during our stay…UGH!

We were putting on the last finishing touches on our home and enjoying relaxation time as well, hot tub almost daily and several glasses of wine was marvelous.

Trusting Camping World again turned out to be a terrible choice. There will be a separate blog entry on the entire fiasco. For now let me say that we have the new skylight and vent covers installed, not the ones we ordered and not properly installed but they are up there. Enough of that situation for now since it only winds me up since we have to change our traveling plans or live with it. We chose to live with it and make our own adjustments because it’s too much of a hassle to get it all corrected.

New fan covers not flush…

Unable to close the original fan door & screen will no longer snap in place so it’s just hanging on.

All that dirt is on the inside of the replacement…

We began our meandering to Upper State New York, very slowly and going to enjoy the journey.

Our first day took us out of Tucson’s heat about 35 miles to Benson at Butterfield RV Resort. We almost worked there and wanted to check it out, just in case another opportunity arises. Check out our separate reviews for all the resorts we will be staying.

Our next day took us a few more miles into Deming, New Mexico at the Escapees, Dreamcatcher Park where we changed our clocks ahead an hour. Weather has been an Achilles heel for us and is dictating our travels. It all began with very windy conditions throughout Arizona, New Mexico and Texas

We stopped at the Isleta RV Resort, just south of Albuquerque and due to the wind, we ended up staying 3 nights, they had a deal that offered the 3rd night free, so we stayed hoping to avoid the wind.

It was still extremely windy on our drive to Amarillo so again we stayed an extra day to avoid it and we were grateful we did because it was ferocious.

Then getting through Tornado Alley without incidents, all awhile looking for open RV Resorts, so due to all of this, there were several hotel stays along our journey that we entered a separate post for all the hotel stays. The hotel costs were phenomenal but a good nights sleep was important to us because weather was frightening and we wanted hot tub time.

We finally arrived at Lake George Escape the last day of April, just in time to begin our 1stday of work on May 1st. Miles counted from Yuma, mpg averaged over 10…WHAT A RIDE…
