Independence Day and Beyond

Since our day off landed on the 4th of July, we decided to just hang out at home. We did our honey do’s and BBQ’d, not only chicken and pork steaks but burgers and brauts for our lunches all week.

It was steamy hot, muggy and rainy off and on but that didn’t stop the knuckleheads from setting off fireworks, even though the rules clearly stated there were no “FIREWORKS “ allowed. Guess the rules did not pertain to them as it seems to happen more often here in New York, almost as much as it happens in California.

We have so many questions concerning this area but the most dominant ones are as follows…

·      Does it ever stop raining?

There has not been a full day of blue skies or sunshine since we arrived on May 1st and it just seems to be getting worse every week with all the storms rolling through dumping so much rain that the river is rising. Most of the campground flooded out two years ago and they seem to be expecting it to happen again if it continues as the forecast suggests. Luckily, we chose a site on higher ground, we have tremendous puddles around us but no major flooding in our area. All around us under a hundred miles they are having major flooding so us traveling is getting a bit sketchy. It really has to stop raining eventually, RIGHT?

·      Are most New Yorkers rude?

We have never in our 20+ years of full time traveling have we ever met so many people that are just downright rude. They come in rude and stay that way throughout their visit. Even phone callers come off very abrupt, angry and aggressive throughout the call, and I’m talking about just calling for a reservation. It’s probably due to lack of sunlight, I know it makes me cranky.

·      Where has common sense gone?

We have never noticed elsewhere how many people have become so needy and unable to do simple things without a million questions as they are here in New York.

It’s raining, what are we going to do now?

            Figure it out

How do I find this that or anything?

                    Google it

Is it going to rain tomorrow, next week, next month?

These and hundreds more are nonstop, all day long, everyone complaining about things that are out of our control and looking for a refund and when they give it to one, they tell everyone else and by the end of day management has given back so much and the guests still give terrible reviews. We dread going in almost every day and we are only half way through. The other day I was at the front desk for the first 37 minutes and handed off 7 complaints to management, that’s just not right. It didn’t stop, I just stopped counting.

We just had to get away on our next time off but really couldn’t venture too far out to the extreme flooding all around us so we chose to stay at The Queensbury Hotel just a few miles away so we could enjoy some hot tub time which we did.

We are hoping to find some dry land this weekend to go and explore but the forecast is not promising.

Trust me, it's not just in NY. We're in Colorado and we get the same exact thing every day. It seems people feel so entitled to everything and are just plain unhappy these days.
