We said our goodbyes and there were many tears, we enjoyed working with the team they had, everyone was having fun while still doing a remarkable job. There will be a separate review on our time at Snake River Cabins & RV Village in Jackson, Wyoming.
Our first day drive was slow and smokey, slow due to several areas of construction where there was at least a 20 minute delay each time and smokey due to the Pacific Coast fires. But, we were in no hurry since we were only traveling 65 miles. We made it to Pinedale, Wyoming around 12:30pm where we stayed at the Yellowstone Trail RV Park, review will be posted separately.
Another smokey 104 mile drive on Tuesday, we were up at 6am to make our 10am appointment to get new tires on MayC in Rock Springs, Wyoming. We checked into the Rock Springs/Green River KOA around noon, review posted separately. We didn’t get much sleep at all last night, the winds were wicked and we were rocking so much it made my motion sickness act up.
Our next day drive was just a little over 100 miles to Rawlins, Wyoming at a great park, Western Hills Campground. The drive was uneventful except of course the miles of construction, but the miles without the construction was the smoothest ever. Once we got parked, the rains were blinding and the wind was frightful but it didn’t last all night, by the time we went to sleep there was just frequent rain showers.
Extra eventful is all we can say about our drive to Kremmling, Colorado. We had wind, we had torrential rain squaws, we had a semi overturn on our path just minutes before we passed it, and then we had MayC’s tranny decide to skip gears while I’m driving 65mph…NOT A FUN DAY AT ALL!
After we just put all new tires on her, she acts this way…we were able to drive her another 47 miles only going about 50 with a line of traffic behind us to get to the park. Unfortunately there is nothing else on the way or in town so we had her towed to the nearest Jeep dealer in Silverthorne, Colorado, almost 40 miles. Of course they only have one mechanic on duty because everyone else is collecting free money, so why work. Anyway, it will be at least 2 weeks before they are even able to diagnose her and then weeks for parts and…so we left her behind until November.
We stopped and gave our information to the dealer and then drove to Buena Vista, Colorado where we stayed at Valley Mobile Park. We drove through some snow, yes you read that right, they had a dusting of snow in Leadville, Colorado where it is over 10,000’ elevation. We can’t imagine what it’s going to be like in November when we have to pick it up…ugh!
Our next day journey took us to Alamosa, Colorado and we stayed again at the KOA. The drive was smooth and uneventful, just the way we love it. Let me just say that our nightly costs for parking our RV have been outrageous, anywhere from $40 to $75…ridiculous…especially when these sites were half the cost just a year ago. Seems as if they are all trying to recoup last years losses all at once.
A bumpy drive to Santa Fe, New Mexico on 285 South, miles of teeth chattering road, and with the temperatures rising, so was Maggie’s, but she made it without a hiccup. Lately with all the craziness of our travels, we have both been anxious and not living in the moment and we are doing everything possible to just loosen up and enjoy the ride. It keeps us focused if we are not worrying about what might happen and instead just loving the time and things immediately in front of us. We can do this!
We did it…we made it to our first leg of this journey, Albuquerque, New Mexico, where we will pack for our 3 months of travel, clean Maggie and prepare her for storage, and unwind for a few days before we begin our travel to Texas. The next leg is as many miles but we will be in a rental car, so it will only take a few days instead of puddle jumping like we do with Maggie.
