We left Page, AZ continuing on US-89 into Utah and the drive was not only spectacular views, but it was easy and mostly smooth. We had traveled this road many times, but it has been quite a few years and it was fantastic.
We drove 219 miles and arrived at Monroe Canyon RV Park in Monroe, Utah for a few days. Being off season, we almost had the place to ourselves, which made a great time for laundry.
The weather on our route so far was perfect, but a winter storm was coming, so we changed things up a bit. We changed our next stay to one night instead of two and after that due to some freezing temps and possible rain and snow showers we opted hotel stays.
Drove 197 miles to our next stop in Layton, Utah with great views except through Salt Lake City. Really dislike going through major cities but the good news is this was the last of them. We stayed at Valley View RV Resort, which is a really nice park, except for the very annoyingly loud fighter jets from the nearby Hill Air Force Base all day long, from 8am to 9pm. Unfortunately, we had made a reservation for a two day stay and could not change it. They did give us a credit but not sure if we want to return due to the excessive noise level of those jets.
We are going to go back to how we use to travel years ago. We really prefer to travel by not making reservations until possibly day of arrival. Going to give that way another chance to see if that way will work once again.
A shorter drive of 151 miles to Fort Hall, Idaho. We had planned to stay at the Buffalo Meadows RV Park for a few days that is attached to Shoshone Bannock Casino Hotel, but instead we got a room due to the weather. Even though customer service was awesome, we will not be returning. Our first room was hot, so we turned down the thermostat as we were instructed to do and give it some time. We went and played a little at the casino and brought some food back to our room and the temperature had not changed. It was still over 75 with the A/C running, even though it was frigid outside. Maintenance came and reset it and told us to give it about 30+ minutes, which we did, and it actually went up a degree. They changed our room and the same thing happened, by now we have wasted over 4 hours waiting and moving. Then they gave us a suite with a jacuzzi at no additional charge, as if that was going to make up for it since it was almost 11pm by this time. Not our best relaxing evening as we had planned, but we were at least able to get some cooler sleep.
Our next day 253-mile drive was another beautiful one, there was an area where we were actually even with the snow piles on the sides of the roads. Until now, the snow had not been on our level, only on the mountains near us. We arrived in Anaconda, Montana at the Forge Hotel BW and t was a fantastic stay. Checkin was the quickest we have ever experienced that even included a great smile. We asked if the pool and hot tub was available and were told they were, so we got our suits on and went to enjoy. When we walked into the area, there was a maintenance sign on the hot tub, but the wonderful maintenance man said he would get it completed in just a moment…and he did just that. We had the place to ourselves for well over an hour and we had a fantabulous time. The King bed was so comfortable, and it was so cool in our room, we were very happy.
Our final day was only 181 miles, but we made a stop halfway through to wash our truck and especially the trailer to get the road off before we got to our destination for the summer. We had done this before, and we definitely plan to do this for all of our future washes of the trailer. We paid $70 to wash both the truck and the trailer at Exit 96 Shine in Missoula, Montana. When we’ve had a local business come to our site, it had cost us over a thousand dollars, but no more, now we plan our stop.
We made it to our destination and have settled into a great site. We have a marvelous view of the lake and because we are on an end site, the other side is open acreage where we are sure we will spot some wildlife.
We met with our manager, and we were given a gift package with all sorts of goodies besides work shirts. We are happy and will be ready to start working on May 1st. Life is most certainly the grandest it has ever been.
