Hon-Dah RV Park

777 AZ 260

Lakeside, AZ 85929

928-369-7400

10/2020

We paid $205.66 weekly rate for a huge, water, 20/30/50 amp electric, sewer, on an almost level gravel site with a concrete patio. We were located way into this park, amongst the tall pine trees, but our site was mostly clear of trees.

Many of the sites were packed up for the winter but we had a few neighbors that were still around. Including one night a group of wild horses were in the park creating havoc until security ran them off.

The customer service at the office was excellent, she found us a perfect spot without a bunch of overhead trees and some privacy.

All amenities were closed at the RV Park, probably due to COVID-19, including laundry, but the casino, gas station and convenience store were open for business. At least for a few days the casino was open, but then it closed up again due to a few employees testing positive.

If you’re ever in the area and need a place to stay, we would highly recommend them.

Our Work Experience at Prairie Berry

Things were a bit strange this summer due to the Scamdemic, but we worked from May 17th to September 20th. Our last day was supposed to be August 23rd but our Fall gig was cancelled so we opted to stay another month and they were glad to keep us.

Our Leads were all amazing…each one with their own personalities that brought a different approach to the business. It’s nice to see that they are all allowed to do it their own way even when others do not agree with them. At first it was strange because of that , but once we learned each of their ways, we were just fine with all of them.

The initial part of the job was fabulous, it was fun giving tastings to customers, telling stories about the winery, but also our own stories and listening to the stories from the customers. Most customers were fun, only a few were difficult but we just kept smiling and having fun. We made some great cash tips but we are certain if we were able to have a tip jar out, we would have made a whole lot more, but they discouraged us from promoting tips.

Some employees were not doing their jobs so it was harder on everyone else, there were so many call ins which also made it harder on those that were there because they hardly got replaced, which only made it harder on the people that were there. Jerry had 100% attendance and I took 1 sick day off, but others took plenty of time off. They should find a different approach to handle employees who DO NOT carry the extra burden at all, while others are always going that extra hundred miles to pick up after them, they did not change at all throughout the season. It was frustrating for us because we both always go that extra mile and it got old really fast.

We gave a survey to each of our guests and they were tallied up monthly for our meetings. Both of ours were always in the upper 90 percent, so we were not only keeping our guests happy, we were also stocking shelves, cleaning, assisting others in other areas and doing it all with an upbeat, positive attitude.

During our interviews, we feel there should have been more emphasis on the HARD work, and doing much more than just wine tastings. We felt it was sugar coated just how hard it was going to be, especially because many of us had to make up for the several who just didn’t go beyond the one thing they did. Due to the hard work, on our feet the entire shift on the concrete floors with just a little cushion, we,  just after a month, went to 4 days, 32 hours instead of 5 days 40 hours for the rest of the season. There was hardly no time to ever just stand there and catch your breath, there was always something to fill, clean or help a customer. Absolutely no sitting at anytime during our shift, except our paid half hour lunch.

We had thought we would have a much more relaxing summer than it ended up being for us, but we met some wonderful people and even though our bodies got whooped, we made the best of it and had a great summer and did some exciting sight seeing. We received a VIP card that gave us some savings on local venues, we saved a few hundred dollars.

They gave us a stipend towards our rent, and they made a deal with a local campground for a lower rate, but it was not a well maintained campground. But, the alternative was to pay an exuberant price at any of the other resorts in the area, so we stayed there until the last two weeks when we used our membership for the stay.

We had a great summer, worked hard, played harder and would highly recommend it to others, but we will not be returning, due to us seeing all we wanted to see in the area, too hard of work and our accommodations.

Cliff Castle Casino Hotel

555 Middle Verde Road

Camp Verde, AZ 86322

800-381-7568

10/2020

After riding the Verde Canyon Railroad we stayed at the hotel so we didn’t have to drive 3 hours back to our motorhome.

The room was excellent with all the amenities, a refrigerator, a Kuerig Coffee Maker and a microwave that was not in the room but it was located by the ice machine.

Our King size bed was comfortable, but the pillows were flat.

The shower had two different shower heads, one was the rain shower head and was fabulous. We absolutely love the walk in showers compared to the tub shower combo.

We got free breakfast but it was nothing to speak about, not traditional or even remotely close to a correctly made Huevos Rancheros.

The gaming floor was limited, not only due to the COVID-19, but also because it was a small area and even though we hit a substantial jackpot, this casino is not at the top of our lists.

Verde Canyon Railroad Adventure

Even though we lived in Arizona for many years prior to us full time traveling, there are still places on our list we have yet to see, this was one of them.

We had a 3 hour drive from Show Low to arrive early enough to have lunch and just hang out and talk to people. Yes you heard that right, it was almost normal. There was a moment when we were eating lunch at an outdoor table and it was a big table and getting crowded, but we ended up sharing our table with another couple and we discussed all our travels, they too were quite seasoned travelers as well, so it was a great experience.

Our lunch was good, the chicken sandwich and the strips were crispy, fresh and juicy.

Once we boarded, we began with a champagne toast to the good times we will share, and that we did. Our host was a wonderfully, funny young man who not only was attentive but was knowledgeable about the canyon.

We had great tasting Grand Marnier Margaritas with the perfect amount of everything, they were so smooth. We also had delicious snack boxes to enjoy on the ride that included cold fresh strawberries and grapes, a few delightful cheeses, a variety of meat slices, soft, crunchy crackers, and a scrumptious brownie with a strawberry parfait.

There was one tunnel that was 700’ in the pitch darkness which made it intense.

There were several bridges, some small and a few high over the Verde River which made them interesting.

There was also a time when the train was at the edge at a very steep point, which for me was very scary, but I made it through.

The scenery was spectacular…it was 3 ½ round trip that we would recommend to everyone, but do yourself a favor and pay the additional cost for the First Class car, you will not regret it.
