21902 Merle Wolfe Road
Thackerville, Oklahoma 73459

9/6-9/10/2015

We arrived on Sunday of the Labor Day Weekend and it was packed and so congested but by Monday it was a bit better and then it was almost totally vacated by Tuesday and was then peaceful and quiet.

We were evacuated from the park by the police about an hour after we arrived due to some sort of shooting threat which eventually was revealed was all a hoax but it made for an exciting afternoon.

We paid $20 per night with our casino card and being it was our first visit, the first night was free. The sites are flat concrete pads with a little grass, a barbeque pit and picnic table. They have back in and pull through sites that are accommodating for big rigs. There are a few little shade trees, but mostly the sites are open.

The entire area is well manicured and kept clean. They offer free WiFi but we ended up just using our MiFi due to the security issues getting into theirs plus it was slow.

They have free shuttle service to the casino and the casino is HUGE! We were there a few hours and probably only seen about half of the place.

Their laundry room and restrooms were updated and kept clean.

We paid $25.69 using our Good Sam 10% discount for a sewer, water, and electric pull in/back out site on fairly level gravel. They offer free WiFi but a slight charge for cable but we set up our dish instead.

The young man that checked us in was a bit rough at first but soon came around and was pleasant. The areas were kept clean and well maintained.

Many of the sites have shade trees and some have none, we had one that did not have any shade and it was in the 90’s so it was hot.

Everyone Said it Was a Great Road...Even in Our RV...WRONG!

We can now say we have done the Scenic Byway 12 in its entirety and if you are ever in the area this is an absolutely wonderfully scenic route that should not be missed but we would not advise driving it in your RV as we did. We only seen about 3 other RV’s on this road, 2 were short rentals and the last one we seen was getting on while we were getting off and was a big one towing…we wished them luck!

The terrain changes several times while on this Byway and each change brings an entirely different view that would have made for some interesting photos but unfortunately the sun was not our friend and most of the photos had terrible glare but luckily we were able to salvage a few of them.

From our location at Bryce Canyon heading east the byway starts off looking innocent and then the huge decent into Tropic that was spectacular and not at all scary.

Then there are some climbs and descends along the byway that would most likely be difficult in a car but in a RV they were horrifying, so many 8% grades and several 10% grades too.

There is an area that they call the Hogsback which is like being on a bridge with no guard rails but it is just a narrow piece of land way up in the sky at about 10,000 feet that they built to take you across this area. The views were awesome but it was hard taking photos while I was trying to sit in Jerry’s lap instead of looking at the little room for any errors there were to make since the roads were narrow, no guard rails, and a long steep downward descent if we happen to lose it while on this road.

None of our photos does this area any justice at all, the views are absolutely spectacular.

Our original plan was to take the Byway to Richfield for our Walmart stop and then drive it back but after driving it one way we both agreed that we would not be taking it again anytime soon with Maggie.

We took lots and lots of photos, check out our Google + Web Albums.

Foster’s Family Steak House

1152 Highway 12
Bryce, UT  84764
435-834-5227
7/25/2015 for Lunch

Our Rainbow Tour shuttle driver had recommended Foster’s Family Steak House but we were actually planning to ride our bikes a little further to another restaurant but the so-called bike trail was awful, all gravel, bumpy and the roughest ride we have had in a very long time so we stopped at Foster’s Family Steak House.

It’s connected to a hotel with a Market and Bakery located right next to it.

Inside, the atmosphere reminded us of a small town restaurant with a very friendly environment.

Jerry had the Bryce Canyon Burger that was cheesy, tender and very juicy and the fries were hot and crispy and the pickle was crisp, crunchy with a hint of garlic.

I had the Reuben that was juicy and succulent even though the meat itself was not fresh corned beef but instead was one of those frozen pucks that was completely cooked but was not broken up which at first was a little concerning but ended up being good. The kraut was refreshing and the sauce they put on it was amazing.

Then we shared an absolutely delicious homemade Foster’s Berry Pie, made with Strawberries, Rhubarb, Raspberries and Blackberries. We topped ours with vanilla ice cream and just a touch of whipped cream and it was scrumptious. The berries were just a bit tart so the ice cream did not make it too sweet, it was perfect.

Lunch was a bit pricey at $30 but for this area the prices are reasonable and we would recommend it to others.

More Adventures at Ruby’s

It was another weekend with not so good weather here but we did manage to get in some adventures in between the torrential downpours and a few thunder and lightning storms that were spectacular and the full and bright rainbow.

We had a night out with friends that we had met the first week here at Ruby’s Inn through the RV Village site. It was nice to get to know Ron and Ramona better and just hang out for the evening enjoying some drinks and great conversations.

A few weeks ago we went on an ATV Ride with “Crazy Frank” and had a blast. If you are spending any time at Ruby’s Inn, be sure to take a ride with him, he is so entertaining and the trails are fun.

We both drove an Ace which for us was a great comfortable choice...

We also went to Ebenezer’s at Ruby’s Inn to have a delicious dinner with some really great entertainment.

It’s nice to be able to enjoy these fun things as a perk for working at Ruby’s Inn, we would highly recommend them to others whenever you are in the area.

There are loads of photos, check them out on our Google + Web Albums.
