All of this happened within the first two weeks of employment…
It was discussed that there would be a Pitbull behind the counter, but it was not discussed that we would be responsible for it our entire shift. For the most part he was sleeping but there were many times he whined for his momma or needed attention from me to be petted or taken out for his duties…it was not our dog, and we just didn’t feel it should have been added to our job to dogsit.
We had to park the golf cart in an area where they wanted us to park, and it was so stinky from dog poo and piles of it everywhere.
Disrespectful workers, one had this cocky and gloomy attitude from the beginning but during a very busy time he lost it and said some crap to me over the radio that the line of guests at the desk, our managers and some people from our corporate office overheard. It was embarrassing and even though I did set him straight, he never apologized. He tried to turn it around by telling me that respect was a two-way street, but I have never disrespected him. Some men just do not like assertive woman, due to the unprofessionalism management I was again disrespected by another male worker. It seems to be a pattern around the place for bad customer service, always looking at people as thieves and just rude to guests.
The manager is very rough and accusatory to many guests, if she doesn’t like you, she doesn’t hide it and if she does like you, you can do no wrong, allowing rules to drastically change for them but strongly enforcing them to others. She really makes people angry with her shortness and abruptness to them.
We witnessed them giving a 24-hour notice to a seasonal because her kids disrespected the managers autistic child, but I witnessed several times management being so disrespectful to other kids and adults too.
Management fired a band that performed regularly because they did not like one of the seasonal ladies in the band for a trivial reason. These are just a few, there were so many differences that was hard to keep up with.
A gun was fired several times by a guest that killed an attacking pitbull. It was all one big chaotic fiasco that left us scared for our lives and intensified my fear of dogs, especially after management felt more concerned about the dog then the bleeding people that were attacked by the pitbull.
We BEGGED for a site NOT under any trees, but they would not accommodate. There were big branches falling off of so many of the trees, including on our site to the point we felt so uncomfortable that we or our trailer would be harmed. And we were right, a huge branch fell on our slide causing us to have a major leak. The sites and roads were the worst we’ve seen, unlevel with huge potholes and divets everywhere.
We have decided working in campgrounds back east are not for us. It’s just not the environment we want to be part of, we love allowing our excellent customer service to shine bright, and here it just was not possible. We were not going to make the same mistake again, so we chose to leave sooner rather than later.
We have other opportunities, and we will definitely find our way once again. There is no reason to stay where we are not having fun, not feeling safe, and are not able to shine in our roles. We will let you all know where we land. Life is grand!
