What a great time we had, but the
drive there and back had many downfalls. Idiot drivers passing when they should
not be or riding our butts even though we were doing a tad over the speed
limits. There were so many animals running across our path, more than we have
probably seen in total in the 15 years on the road, so many deer, several big
horn sheep, and other small animals passing right in front of us that we had to
break several times to avoid hitting them. Winding roads and high altitudes
going over Monarch Pass which popped a few of our bags in the car.
Construction, and an area where they were painting the yellow and white
stripes, at one time we were traveling less than 10 miles per hour following
the striping trucks that stripped over a dead black cat on the road. It was
truly disgusting, they could have and should have moved the dead animal but
instead they just stripped over it.
Our Royal Gorge Route Railroad
adventure was awesome...
If you are ever in the area and plan to do it, then you must do it in style as we did. We opted to take the afternoon route with lunch and wine flights in the Dome of the train.
The views were spectacular...
Lunch
was scrumptious...
The wines were good and the service was over the top...
We chose to stay and pay a higher
price for the Hampton Inn, mostly because they had a hot tub, but unfortunately
when we arrived the hot tub was under repair, but we enjoyed our stay anyway. We LOVE taking long, hot showers and stretching out.
We will be staying put at our site on the 4th of July because we do not do all that chaotic and busy times with others, but we do have plans for more adventures.

Sounds like a fantastic trip except for the road part of the journey. Striping over a dead cat, eww!
Wow, what a great trip! Brings back some fond memories.
